We are just 13 months away from a watershed moment in our history … the 2012 elections. Disagreements on our country’s future path abound, but people on all sides are in agreement on at least one thing: next year’s elections will define the direction that our country is headed in … for better, or for worse.
So what can you do to help ensure that we have free and fair elections … to ensure that everyone’s vote counts equally … at this critical juncture? Actually, a number of options are available to every one of us, and we respectfully ask that you carefully consider doing one or some of the following:
G
et out and vote/Get out the vote Most of you are probably already registered voters, but if not be sure to register now so that you can vote in next year’s elections. You’ll want to vote in the Spring primaries to help select candidates, and then again in the Fall general elections to select our next representatives. There will be significant and obvious differences among the candidates … and thus vastly different implications, depending on who gets elected … and so you should encourage
others to register and vote, too.
Volunteer to help There are many ways that you can help by volunteering your time, talents and/or money:
Get involved in Honest Elections Illinois We are an initiative developed by citizens for citizens, to inspire and equip volunteers for involvement at every stage of our electoral process and to actively protect the rights of legitimate voters, regardless of their political affiliation. Toward this end, we invite each of you (and any friends you might want to bring with you) to a start-up meeting to see how you can get involved and make a difference:
Thursday, October 27
7:00-8:00 PM
1001 Curtis Street, Downers Grove
Get oriented with True The Vote We are working in concert with an organization in Texas called True The Vote. Their mission is to empower groups around the country to “True the Vote” at their local levels. We are working with them because they have been pursuing this mission for a couple of years already, and have developed a support program and training curriculum to ensure the integrity of our elections. If you haven’t already participated in their orientation webinar, we encourage you to
do so next week … from the comfort of your own home:
Tuesday
October 11 - 6:00-6:45 PM
Help us spread the word We will be sharing a brief slide presentation with you at the 10/27 meeting outlining the importance of honest elections, and we would like to also show it to as many groups as possible in order to gain more support. If you are a member of a group … civic, fraternal, social, business, whatever … that cares about the future of our elections and our country, please let us know how we may try to set up such a presentation for that group. Simply reply to this email with contact names/numbers.
Donate We are strictly a volunteer organization, with no regular source of income. We need people, but we also need money. If you, or another person or organization you know of, share the same values as Honest Elections Illinois, please get in touch with us to discuss how you/they can help. Again, simply reply to this email with contact names/numbers.
Thank you!
